Other reasons for setting goals that the students came up with were:
- To do something better
- To be safe
- Because its fun
- It feels good
- It results in a good way
- For a funner or funny life
- For a better life
- To make life interesting
- To make a habit of doing your best
- To have an exciting future
- To make life easier in the future
- For a good life when you grow up
- To be active and included
- So you don’t end up being a quitter
It's easier to accomplish a goal when we know where we are starting and where we are finishing.
Sometimes it can be so overwhelming to think of what to do if we don't know where we are going that we don't even get started!
Goals are most helpful when they are S.M.A.R.T.
Happy Habit #1
We read a story about how we are in charge of our own fun in life. Next time you think you're bored, its time to take charge!
Our amygdala is like our body guard. It is on the alert for danger and when it feels threatened it acts immediately. Instead of passing information on to other parts of the brain, it reacts with the fight/flight/freeze response. This is great when we are truly threatened but when it comes to general anxieties, it is best to stay calm and allow the information to be passed on to other parts of our brain responsible for higher levels of thought.
Homework for Day 1:
Brainstorm possible goal ideas for one academic goal and one personal goal to work on for the rest of summer.
